Third Day – Revelation
Ihr Album ist immer noch in den Top Christian Album Charts ganz oben zu finden in diesen Charts! Third Day ist eine amerikanische Christliche Rockband, welche seit 1991 aktiv sind. Gegründet wurden sie in Marietta in Georgia vom Frontsänger Mac Powell und dem Gitarristen Mark Lee. Weitere Bandmitglieder sind Tai Anderson am Bass, David Carr am Schlagzeug und Scott Wilbanks an den Keyboards. Ihr Bandname ist eine Anspielung aus der Bibel, in der Jesus nach dem 3. Tag (Third Day) nach seiner Kreuzigung vom Tod wieder auferstanden ist. Der Stil dieser Band wird meistens als “Southern (Roots) Rock” bezeichnet und erinnert an die Band Counting Crows, und vor allem, was die Stimme von Sänger Mac Powell angeht, kann man vergleiche ziehen an den Hootie & the Blowfish Sänger.
Das Debüt-Album war noch stark geprägt von Akustikgitarren, dann folgte mit “Conspiracy No. 5″ im Jahr 1997 eine recht experimentelles Album. Das Album “Time” wiederum erhält seinen besonderen Charakter dadurch, dass die Songs jeweils von der ganzen Band im Studio eingespielt wurden und nicht, wie sonst üblich, jedes Instrument einzeln.
Ab etwa dem vierten Album dominiert dann der bis heute charakteristische “Southern Rock”. In den USA gewann die Band mehrere musikalische Auszeichnungen, siehe weiter unten die Auflistung. Am 28. Februar 2008 gab Third Day auf ihrer Webseite bekannt, dass Brad Avery die Band nach 13 Jahren verlassen hat. Seitdem spielen sie nur noch zu viert und auf der Tournee werden sie durch einen fünften Musiker unterstützt.
